About This Station

Hakata Station is Fukuoka's main gateway and arguably the best-value major city investment location in Japan right now. As the western terminus of the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen, it connects directly to Osaka in 2.5 hours, Hiroshima in one hour, and Kagoshima via the Kyushu Shinkansen. Fukuoka's population is still growing — one of the only major Japanese cities where that's true — and the city government actively courts startups, international businesses, and tourism. The areas within 10 minutes of Hakata offer 1K investment apartments in the 5-15M yen range with gross yields commonly exceeding 6%. Tenjin, the city's entertainment and shopping centre, is a short subway ride away, and Fukuoka Airport is absurdly close — 5 minutes by subway from Hakata, making it one of the most airport-accessible major stations in Asia. Tourism is year-round, anchored by food culture, cruise ship traffic, and proximity to South Korea. Short-term rental demand is strong. The Tenjin Big Bang and Hakata Connected redevelopment projects are reshaping the city centre through 2027. Very few downsides here — Fukuoka's main risk factor is typhoon exposure, and property insurance costs reflect that.
